Grocery prices have never been higher and the Ford government voted against fixing it. MPP Tom Rakocevic is introducing Bill 113, the Fair Prices and Tax-Free Groceries Act, 2026, which would remove the HST from all food and drink, including prepared meals, deli food, and snacks.The plan also takes on the grocery giants directly by requiring the government to end secret lease deals that let chains like Loblaws and Sobeys block cheaper competitors from opening nearby — deals that keep prices high for families.Wab Kinew’s NDP government in Manitoba did both: taking the tax off food and banning these unfair lease deals.
